Accountant I

This position works in the Accounts Receivable/Medical Billing Dept. The employee in this position completes routine clerical and accounting tasks. The employee is responsible for billing medical and dental claims, retrieving remittance advices submitted from Medicaid, Medicare and third-party insurance payers, posting payments, verifying insurance to determine client's eligibility status, verifying and rectifying billing discrepancies, researching claims and working aged accounts. The salary for this position includes a competitive area differential (CAD) of $24.80 bi-weekly.

The employee in this position will spend a great deal of time at the computer completing data entry type work, which may require the employee to sit more than 3-4 hours at a time. This position will operate office/computer equipment such as printers, copiers, scanners, and letter folding machines.

Your
Responsibilities:

  • Initiates the billing process within HMS using the correct insurance reimbursement codes, fees, and services.

  • Follows appropriate local and state fee policies when completing the billing process each time.

  • Generates and reviews unbilled records and provided client services in HMS using Crystal reports/Infoview, daily.

  • Utilizes the appropriate to verify client s insurance Medicaid eligibility status, updates the Insurance screen and notepad in HMS with accurate information each time. Generate and mail monthly client statements.

  • Enters, reviews and certifies EARs coding in HMS, daily.

  • Answers phone calls within a timely, by the third ring, to ensure client receives a response in a timely manner.

  • Investigates denied claims to ensure claim denied appropriately and/or to determine if the claim should be resubmitted for reimbursement.

  • Verifies claims status for aged AR accounts for assigned locations.

  • Analyze denied claims to identify patterns and/or trends when investigating denied claims, promptly notifying the supervisor of any problems or concerns.

  • Analyze unpaid or denied insurance claims within 14 days of receipt of denial and submits corrected claim within 30 days of date denial received unless clean claim cannot be submitted.

  • Submits appeals with insurance companies as needed, promptly taking corrective action/contacting the insurance carrier to retrieve payment.

Qualifications:

Required

  • High School diploma.

  • At least 1-2 years of experience verifying Medicaid coverage in the Florida Medicaid System or Clearinghouse.

  • At least 1 year of experience working at the front in a doctor s office or clinical setting.

  • At least 1 year of experience posting reimbursement payments for medical or dental claims.

  • At least 1 year of experience verifying claim status and reviewing denials to determine if the claim should be resubmitted.


Preferred
Qualifications:

  • Work as a team to help department achieve department goals.

  • At least 1 year of experience submitting medical claims to insurance payer via a Clearinghouse.

  • Ability to type 50 wpm with minimum errors.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Knowledge and understanding of basic accounting principles.

  • Knowledge and understanding of FLAIR codes.
