Electronics Technician(Marine Instrumentation)- GS-0856-11 (DEU-TERM-SO)

As an ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN (Marine Instrumentation) within the St Petersburg Coastal and Marine Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:
Operate, maintain, and calibrate all electronic systems, equipment, and instruments used in collection of marine geophysical and navigational data. Evaluate, learn, and master geophysical data acquisition software and related components; repair and calibrate electronic equipment and instruments. Develop, test, evaluate and install marine electronics and geophysical survey systems on research platforms such as ships, small boats, aircraft and trailers; interpret and understand electronic schematics. Effectively work with coworkers, vendors, and others to achieve mission goals and objectives; make independent decision on technical matters and work without close supervision. Work at sea on small boats and large research vessels; operate boats less than 26 feet in length. Operates a government vehicle on a regular basis. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The candidate will serve on 3 to 5 cruises per year that may range in length from a few days to several weeks at a time; some cruises may have extended working hours in order to keep all instrumentation operable. Ability to lift and carry field equipment and gear over 45 lbs. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work will normally occur in an office or laboratory area, however during field season, work on ships and small boats is required. The candidate must be physically able to work on moving ships, wet decks, and potentially in extreme weather conditions; therefore deck experience, related both to operation of equipment from vessel and the vessel itself is a plus. The incumbent will be required to operate small motorboats (26ft) and government vehicles. Applicants must meet the following to qualify for the GS-11 level:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCEOne year of professional experience directly related to the duties of the position to be filled equivalent to the GS-10 level in the Federal service is required. Only the applicants with the knowledge abilities and skillset required to perform the duties of the position will be considered. Examples of GS-10 experience may include:
(1) participate in marine geophysical surveys (single-beam, multibeam, seismic, and sidescan sonar) aboard ocean-going research vessels, (2) troubleshoot, maintain, and operate marine geophysical equipment and instrumentation, (3) analyze, process and archive geophysical and GPS data using state of the art software (such as Hypack, Caris, POSPac, Waypoint-GrafNav, and SonarWiz), (4) assist in planning, organizing and executing a limited project and be involved in the development of a system with performance characteristics requiring solution of both design and operational problems with responsibility for time, materials, cost, safety and performance requirements, and (5) possess knowledge of coastal environments and processes in order to distinguish between artifacts within the bathymetry processing software applications. In addition to meeting the Specialized Experience, the applicant must also meet the Selective Factor:
Candidate must have knowledge and experience in working aboard ocean-going vessels and operating marine geophysical equipment, such a Reson multibeam system or equivalent, Odom single-beam systems or equivalent, and Kinematic GPS system (Ashtech or Spetra Precision or equivalent). You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
